Free For All: The Movie - One Dude’s Quest to Save Democracy!

Happy 4th of July!

July 4th, 2008 | Written by: John Wellington Ennis

What a great day!  The film has launched for free to the world, it’s a three day summer weekend, but mostly, today is the anniversary of some really ballsy writing:

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should
not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all
experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while
evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms
to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and
usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to
reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their
duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their
future security.

It is in revisiting these sacred texts that we can divine our own inspiration to stand up to tyranny and oppression today.

I want to celebrate our launch today by sharing another appropriate video: A Muppet re-enactment of the raucous Constitutional Convention which led to the drafting of the Declaration of Independence.  It is a reminder that fronting your rulers is not easily agreed to, no matter how urgent.

Between these stirring words that authored a nation, and these lovable childhood icons that relate it 200 years later, there I am.  I can’t think of two more prominent influences on me, which should be apparent in FREE FOR ALL!  The defiant patriotic idealism, tempered with self-aware slapstick and satire.
